Visa Wellington On a Plate Serves up a Sizzling Festival This Coming May

This year food lovers can look forward to a festival bursting with delicious cultural explorations, unique “only in Wellington” experiences, and cool crossover events that offer more than just a meal for food lovers this May.
Take a deep dive into food culture with Mosaic at Field & Green, a pop-up exploring the Jewish Diaspora across the Southern shores of the Mediterranean - think Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and more. If you’re in the mood for celebration, a Kashmiri wedding feast is on the table at Chaat Street with Waza: A Wedding Feast. Fans of classic Italian cuisine should not miss L’Arte Di Mangiar Bene, an event dedicated to a classic 19th century Italian cookbook.
At LTD. Executive Chef Jonny Taggart continues his exploration of his Native Canadian roots through this event Akera - Frybread Tacos. If that’s not enough taco for you, check out the Miramar Taco’ver with Chef Lucho Martinez of Mexican restaurant Em, Taco Addicts and Food Lab for a delicious education in authentic tacos with Double Vision Brewery thanks to the Mexican Embassy.
To get an authentic local experience check out ‘only in Welly’ events such as Eat Like a King, a dinner accompanied by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in Parliament. Or, head to the British High Commissioner’s residence for an evening inspired by The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Wellingtonians take their cheese scones seriously, so why not get hands-on with the “Wellington Famous” Cheese Scone Classes at Pravda which sells out every year.
A highlight is the return of the Chef Collaboration Series presented by Singapore Airlines, which sees nine internationally-renowned chefs paired with iconic Wellington venues. This is your chance to get a taste of the best in the world including Top Chef winner and Iron Chef host Kristen Kish of Arlo Grey in Austin, Texas, Matt Abergel of Yardbird in Hong Kong and others.
If you are looking for something that offers food and more, enjoy a few laughs with your lager at Parrotdog’s Sunday Roast hosted by comedian Mark Sainsbury and the NZ Comedy Festival. Sex & Fast Food serves up a finger-licking good feed with a side of burlesque for a unique evening out.
The Visa Wellington On a Plate programme is live now with Pre-sale for Visa cardholders from 20 March, and General Release available from 23 March.

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
