Discover Your Local Farmers’ Market and Win a $100 Voucher

If you haven’t been to your local farmers’ market in a while, this might be your sign!
National Farmers’ Markets Week is running from March 7–15, celebrating the growers, bakers and small food producers who turn up each week in towns and cities across Aotearoa. There are 26 Farmers’ Markets New Zealand-affiliated markets nationwide, supporting more than 1,000 small food businesses and welcoming around 50,000 shoppers every week, from the Bay of Islands down to Invercargill.

Wednesday morning bounty from Nelson Farmers’ Market
Farmers’ markets are about more than just grabbing your weekly fruit and veg. You’ll find seasonal produce that lasts longer and tastes better, bread that hasn’t travelled halfway across the country, locally raised meat and dairy, and real people who can tell you how your food was grown. They’re also one of the simplest ways to support small regional businesses directly, your money goes straight to the grower or producer.

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
