A beautiful Vintage

Sarah Tuck heads to Marlborough to find out about the making of Villa Maria’s new documentary-style film.
What could be better than relaxing in the comfort of your own living room, cheeky glass of wine in hand, watching a film on…wine?! In a New Zealand-first Villa Maria has worked with prolific American film-maker Colin West to present a look behind the scenes at the entire vintage process from start to finish. Featuring Villa Maria staff, Nick Picone (Chief Winemaker), Stu Dudley (Viticulturalist – Marlborough), Ollie Powrie (Chief Viticulturalist) and Jess Marston (Viticulture Cadet) we see the trials and tribulations faced, the intensity of time-pressure and the commitment that goes into the process.

Director and producer Colin West said about the film. “Vintage is a feature length documentary that tells a uniquely Kiwi story capturing the incredible highs and heart-breaking lows of making world-class wine in New Zealand.”
Stu Dudley (Viticulturalist – Marlborough)
So, if you’ve ever wondered how that wine made it into your glass, (New Zealanders) tune in to watch Vintage on Three at 10.30pm, Saturday 15 February 2020, and thereafter it will be hosted on ThreeNow.
Cheers!

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
