Celebrating Diversity in Art: L'affare Proudly Sponsors the People's Choice Award at the IHC Art Awards

At L’affare, the team believe in the power of creativity and supporting artists to do what they do best. Embracing the spirit of exploration and inclusivity, the IHC Art Awards provide a platform for artists with intellectual disabilities to showcase their creativity. For the past 3 years, L'affare has proudly sponsored the IHC Art Awards People's Choice.
L’affare General Manager, Casey Deane, says, “Celebrating diversity and empowering artists with intellectual disabilities to share their creativity is an honour for L'affare. Our sponsorship of the People's Choice Award at the IHC Art Awards reflects our commitment to supporting genuine talent and artistry in our communities. We believe that art knows no boundaries, we hope to inspire others to embrace creativity.”
The IHC Art Awards hold a special place in the hearts of art enthusiasts and creators alike. This annual event provides artists with intellectual disabilities a platform to showcase their talents, allowing their voices to resonate through their artistic expressions. With 493 entries received this year, the art was displayed in the pop-up gallery in Wellington reflecting the beauty of diverse perspectives.
As visitors explored the gallery, they had the unique opportunity not only to admire captivating artworks but also to support these exceptional artists. Beyond the gallery walls, the IHC Art Awards continue to foster an environment of growth and recognition. Any unsold artworks from the gallery will find a new audience through a Trade Me auction later in August 2023, ensuring the artists' talent reaches a wider community.
Just like a finely brewed cup of coffee, the IHC Art Awards blend dedication and skill, creating an experience that touches lives and fosters new connections. As the IHC Art Awards celebrate the diversity of art and creativity, L'affare is a proud sponsor of the People's Choice Award, recognising the impact that art can have in our lives and fostering connections.
Manaia Matakatea is the winner of the L’affare People’s Choice Award with his artwork “Grocery List”, inspired by his love of making lists to organise his world so he feels safe (pictured). Please visit ihc.org.nz/get-involved/art-awards to see the other submission to the 2023 IHC Art Awards.

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
