Cook The Books: The Little Swedish Kitchen

The woman behind hit TV series The Little Paris Kitchen takes us on a new culinary adventure with her latest offering, from her adopted Scandinavian home.
British food writer Rachel Khoo made her name with TV series The Little Paris Kitchen, cooking up meals in her tiny French apartment. These days the talented cook, now married to a Swede, is in a new kitchen, in a new country.
Here she shares more than 100 dishes from her adopted Scandinavian home, using local ingredients, looking at what Swedes actually eat at home, and whipping up easy-to-replicate meals that celebrate each season.
With cute names like Speedy Sailor’s Stew and The Chocolate Cake the Dog Ate (yes, that happened), and ones as disarmingly frank as ‘Cream Bun Cake’, these recipes are a refreshing delight.

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
