In season: Navel Oranges

There are few fruit we love more than juicy and plentiful New Zealand navel oranges.
The humble orange has long-reigned as one of the most versatile of the citrus fruit family, and it's not hard to see why.
With the navel orange harvest season now underway in sunny Gisborne, Kiwis around the country can enjoy full-access to vitamin-rich, locally-grown oranges in all their juicy glory.
New Zealand grown navel oranges are picked within days of appearing in our supermarket trolleys – we're talking orchard to table, fresh, fast delivery. Orange-lovers can rest assured that they're enjoying the freshest of fruit, which hasn’t been picked weeks ago and shipped here in containers.
Navel oranges are picked from the orchard and independently tested for Brix, acid levels and ripeness before harvest, guaranteeing the best possible experience for growers and consumers alike. That means good news for Kiwis, who can enjoy top quality, home-grown fruit, ripened to perfection thanks to 2,200 hours of gorgeous Gisborne sunshine.
The harvest and availability of navel oranges extends from June to December each year, ensuring a regular supply of fresh fruit high in Vitamin C.

Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
