Where to celebrate Negroni Week

Here, at dish, we’re partial to a Negroni or two. Strong and bitter, this drink is not for the faint-hearted. We've rounded up our top bar picks for your Negroni Week (June 24-30) enjoyment.
We know what we like and, for us, the cocktail is to be traditionally made: equal parts red vermouth, Campari and gin – all of good quality, of course – and to be served in a short glass with a singular large cube of ice. The rim of the glass should taste of citrus and we appreciate a good coil of orange peel. Perfection.
Make the most of Negroni Week, wet your whistle with a drink at one of our favourite New Zealand bars. Some places will be serving their take on a Negroni, while others will serve the traditional cocktail. So, mosey on down to one of the below establishments and celebrate with us, glass in hand. Or if you prefer, enjoy a tipple in the comfort of your own home while listening to our carefully-curated playlist.

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
