Let Go and Feel The Ned

From the Waihopai Valley to your glass, The Ned is an opportunity to escape the everyday and feel young at heart.
At the bottom of the world, in New Zealand, the land of the long white cloud, lies a magical place. Where the blues are bluer, the greens greener and the stars brighter than anywhere else. Where the days are warmer and the nights cooler. Where mountains guard fertile land, shaped and formed 20,000 years ago by shifting glaciers.
One of the highest peaks in Marlborough, provides inspiration for bottled magic. Welcome to The Ned’s home, The Waihopai Valley, Marlborough.
The Ned’s roots run deep here. Cast your eye back three generations to a man of the land, who through hard work and an ability to turn his hand to anything, helped pioneer the local winemaking and viticulture industry. That man was John Marris, father of owner and founder of The Ned, Brent Marris. John cultivated his son’s lifelong passion for wine. A journey that lead to Brent creating The Ned in 2006.
As Marlborough’s first born and raised qualified winemaker, Brent wanted to create a brand that was a symbol of all he loves about the region. The Ned: The mountain he roamed freely as a child. A playground full of adventure and still his happy place. Where he always feels young at heart.
Today, with his wife Rosemary, four daughters and a passionate, dedicated team, Brent and his family’s lifelong work continues. Creating fresh and vibrant wines that could only be of this place. That are full of energy and liveliness. That create a moment, a feeling, that allow you to escape from the everyday and make you too feel young at heart.
With Daylight Savings kicking in, an extra hour of sunlight is an extra hour for possibility to unfold and it’s time to make the most of it! Time to enjoy sun-drenched afternoons, beach days and summer barbecues. All the while with a glass of The Ned in hand.
No matter where you are, be transported to the Waihopai Valley with just one sip.

We start by sharing what’s on the dish team’s radar, what we’re watching, listening to and reading. Harry Butterfield puts a twist on his Nonna’s agnolotti, Malissa Fedele reminds us of the importance of fibre, and Phoebe Holden fulfils a long-held dream, sitting down with Yotam Ottolenghi. Autumn is an abundant time, we make the most with pumpkin, kūmara, cabbage, cauliflower, feijoas, apples and pears. We’re dishing up dinners for two, including a Chicken Dumpling Lasagne, alongside easy weeknight meals. We honour our mums, revisit timeless classics, and add a little baking challenge. This issue, we encourage you to slow down, to enjoy writing your shopping list, and spending time in the kitchen. Because even when life feels relentless, there’s always space to share something delicious.
